We have posted the synopses for the problems for the Odyssey of the Mind 2012-2013 season here. Note that it will be quite a while before the final problem statements are released, but this will give you an idea of what to expect this Fall.

State Tournament Results Now Available

Congratulations to all of the teams that competed in the Virginia Odyssey of the Mind State Tournament this past weekend! We had 18 teams representing our region at the tournament, and 9 of those teams received awards for placing first, second, or third. From our region, 6 teams will be advancing to World Finals at Iowa State University (all teams that come in first or second move on).

We have posted the overall results for all Region 9 teams on our web site, but you can also view the complete scores online at the Virginia state web site.

All Coaches must review the Region 9 House Rules, listed here, and ensure that their team’s solutions comply with these rules as well as the rules in the Program Guide. The link to the House Rules may also be found under the “Coaches Corner” section of the web site.

Upcoming Deadlines – T-shirt Orders & Judge Registration

There are two important deadlines coming up this week. T-shirt orders must be postmarked no later than Thursday, March 1. If you want to guarantee shirts for your team, make sure your form is mailed by the deadline. There will be only limited quantities available for purchase at the tournament.

Also, online registration for judges will close on Wednesday, February 29. If you or someone you know was planning to volunteer as a judge for the tournament, make sure you complete the registration process before then.

Balsa Crush-a-thon on Saturday, February 25

The Balsa Problem Captain in Region 11 is hosting a “Crush-a-thon” on Saturday, February 25, for interested balsa teams that want to practice with official equipment and test out their structure prior to the tournament.

Teams can sign up for a half-hour slot on a first-come, first-served basis. For all of the details, please see our Events page.

Clarification Submission Deadline February 15

This is a reminder that the deadline for submitting official clarification requests is Wednesday, February 15, 2012. No questions will be answered by Creative Competitions, Inc., if received after that date.

If you have any questions about your long-term solution or about the general rules, we encourage you to ask for an official clarification. You can submit your requests at the Odyssey of the Mind main web site.

Also make sure that your teams have reviewed the general clarifications published at that site. General clarifications should be considered an addendum to the long-term problem statement.

Regional Tournament Schedule Now Available

The schedule for the upcoming NoVA North Regional Tournament has been posted on the Tournament Info page. Please note: the schedule is still tentative. All teams are listed with their long term and spontaneous performance times, as well as the membership number that must be included on the team’s official paperwork and membership sign.
